Jon Lee is a performance artist and creative director based in Washington, D.C. I first met Jon at the inaugural (e)merge art fair during the #DCCheer performance by Kristina Bilonick. Jon is one of my favorite people in the studio. Super high energy, fun and creative. Here are a few favorites from my documentation of his performance #YesPlease #YesPlays which also took place at the National Zoo earlier this fall. Thanks Jon for bringing good music, good energy and good vibes to my studio.
Where are you from and what brings you to Washington, D.C.?
I'm from that place where art and business try to throw a really good party together.
Tell me more about #YesPlease #YesPlays.
I believe in Feel Good Experiences. I'm not sure when we all got so afraid of things going wrong. But it's made it hard to feel good. And, don't know about you, but I'm a nicer person when I feel good. So, Ys Pls (Also pronounced as #YesPlease #YesPlays (Oh my gawd, so many effing hashtags), is my project for this important and fun work. It's a performance. It's a way of life. And it will be writing comics soon as well.
What do you love about D.C.?
This city takes itself too seriously. Which I find hilarious. I love hilarious things.
What do you do?
I'm a creative director and writer. And sometimes I make art things.
What makes you happy?
Seeing, doing or tasting something I haven't experienced yet.
What are you reading right now?
Sam Delaney's Through the Valley of the Nest of Spiders and Seth Godin's We're All Weird.
