Sk8R GRLS, Hotel Indigo Jan-March 2022

SK8R GRLS: Life in Motion was a vibrant photography exhibition by Baltimore-based artist E. Brady Robinson, showcased at Hotel Indigo Baltimore from January 25 to March 18, 2022. Presented in collaboration with Maryland Art Place, the series celebrated the resurgence of roller skating among women during the COVID-19 pandemic, capturing themes offreedom, joy and community.

Robinson, inspired by her own return to skating in 2021, documented a diverse group of female-identifying skaters, including artists, musicians and entrepreneurs, through dynamic portraits set against iconic Baltimore locations such as Lake Montebello, Patterson Park, Druid Hill Tennis Courts and the Ravens parking lot. The exhibition featured nine archival metal prints, blending on-location shots with studio images that evoked the nostalgic ambiance of 1980s roller rinks through strobe and gel lighting techniques.

A public reception was held on March 8, 2022, in honor of International Women’s Day, providing an opportunity for the community to engage with the artist and the subjects of her work.
